How do I use the title/part/section quick locator tool in the CFR?

The Title/Part/Section Quick Locator tool can be found on the collection home page. This tool allows you to quickly choose a year, a title, and/or a part using the drop down menu’s to navigate directly to either the title, part, or section level in the CFR.

First, you must select a year from the drop down menu. Once you select a year, the Titles menu will generate from which you can select a Title #/Name. If you wish to go to the title level, click “Go To Title”.

After you select a Title, the Part menu will generate from which you can select a Part #/Name. If you wish to go directly to the part level, click “Go to Part”.

If you are looking for a specific section, you can enter the section number into the final box and click “Get Section”. Since the CFR is only indexed down to the part level, to find a section the system will generate a full-text search for you based on the criteria you entered for the year, title, part, and section. Let’s take a look at an example to illustrate how this works.

We want to find section 14.40, “What a covered person must disclose”, in Title 12 from the 2007 CFR. From the Title and Part Quick Locator, select the year 2007, Title 12-Banks and Banking, and Part 14-Consumer protection in sales of insurance. After you select the part, enter the section number, 40, into the box and click Find Section.

In this example, you get one result. When you click View Matching Text Pages, there are two results. The first is a link to the beginning of the part where each section is defined. The second result is a direct link to the full text of section 14.40.
