How to Find a Public Law Prior to the 57th Congress

Use the citation navigator tool in the U.S. Statutes at Large Library to locate a public law prior to the 57th Congress.

With the U.S. Statutes at Large database, select the Citation Navigator tool found beneath the one-box search.  This will include three citation navigator options. To find a public law prior to the 57th Congress, use the navigator labeled 1st – 56th Congress. Next, type the Chapter enter Year of Enactment.  Click search and you will be taken to the public law you are looking for.

If you wish to keep the navigator open while the search is run, select the open in a new tab/window option.
