December’s Featured Library: United Nations Law Collection

December's featured library is the United Nations Law Collection, which offers researchers a complete online international law collection of exact reproductions of major United Nations Legal publications.

What's Available?

In addition to full sets of both the United Nations Treaty Series and the League of Nations Treaty Series, this collection contains publications from the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), publications on the codification and progressive development of international law, United Nations Yearbooks, UN serials including the Statement of Treaties and International Agreements, Law of the Sea Bulletin, and more.

Find a Treaty

To use the treaty search tool, click either the Treaty Search link located below the main search bar from the UN Law Collection homepage or use the Search for a Treaty link located in the Finding Aids:

Search by treaty number, country name, parties, and more:

For example, search for the treaty titled "African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights" dated June 27, 1981 by entering "African Charter"" in the Popular Name Field and clicking search:

The result received will be the treaty in question, which can be accessed by clicking on the UNTS citation. If the treaty is cited by law review articles, this information will appear on the right side of the search result. Treaty summary information will display, including the registration number, countries, popular name, and description of the treaty.

General Searching

Use the main search bar, which is stationary and available at the top of every page in HeinOnline, to search across the entire United Nations Law Collection for "international human rights" and click the search icon:

Use the facets on the left side of the page to refine your results by document type, date, and more. Note that your matching search terms are highlighted in yellow, results can be sorted by date, and print/download, email, and MyHein options are located to the right of each search result:
